A customer wrote to us last month: she is 82, on a walker after breaking her hip, and cannot walk her dog at all. Her boy is sweet but shy, has only ever been in the back yard, and would run if he got loose.

Nothing on our site answered her. So we wrote this page. If getting the dog out the door is the reason the bath keeps getting postponed, that part is our job, not yours.

Who this is for

Any reason the dog cannot come to us.

You cannot walk the dog out yourself.

A walker, a cane, a wheelchair, a recent surgery, a bad back, or simply not enough strength to hold a dog that pulls. This is the most common reason people call us about this, and it is nothing to apologize for.

The dog is too strong, or would bolt.

A dog that has only ever been in the back yard, or one that runs the moment a gate opens, needs a harness and someone who expects it. We assume escape risk by default and clip on before any door opens.

You are caring for someone else's dog.

Adult children arranging a wash for a parent's dog, or a caregiver handling a client's pet. We can work with whoever is at the house and keep you updated by text.

The dog needs to go out first.

Older dogs and anxious dogs often need a short walk before they will settle for a bath. We will take them around the block first if that is what makes the wash go smoothly.

We come to the door, not the curb.
You do not have to bring the dog anywhere. Answer the door, or tell us where to find them, and we take it from there.

We get the dog safely.
Harness or slip lead on before any gate or door opens. Small dogs get carried. Big dogs walk. If the dog needs a minute to warm up to a stranger, they get a minute.

A short walk first, if they need one.
Around the block or just to the grass, so they can relieve themselves and shake off the nerves before the water starts. Say the word when you book.

The wash happens in the van at your driveway.
Warm water bath, blow-dry to the skin, brush-out, nail trim and ear cleaning. About an hour. One dog at a time, never caged.

We bring them back in and settle them.
Dried, brushed and back where they belong, harness off, before we leave. If you would like a text when we are done rather than a knock, we will do that instead.

Escape risk is assumed, not asked about. The harness or slip lead goes on before any gate or door opens, every time, whether or not you mention it. A dog that has never been out front is exactly the dog that bolts.

Call or text us and we will tell you plainly for your situation. The wash itself is our normal flat price by dog size, $55 to $115, and for most homes handling the dog is simply part of the visit. If your situation needs something unusual, like a long walk or a second person, we would rather say so up front than surprise you at the door.

Often it goes better than an owner expects, because there is no car ride and no waiting room full of other dogs, which is where most of the stress in traditional grooming comes from. Tell us the dog is nervous when you book. We work one dog at a time, we do not rush, and if the dog genuinely will not settle we will stop and talk to you rather than force it.

Usually yes, with an arrangement we agree on in advance: a side gate, a lockbox, a caregiver or family member on site, or a neighbor. We will not enter a home or yard without a plan you have explicitly okayed. Call us and we will work it out.

Yes. Large and giant dogs are routine for us, and the van has a walk-in tub so nobody has to lift a big dog over a wall. Your dog walks a few feet from your door into the van. If your dog is a senior with weak back legs, say so and we will bring a sling and take it slowly.

A short one before the bath, yes, if that helps them settle or they need to relieve themselves. We are a wash service rather than a dog walking service, so we are not the right people for a daily walking routine, and we would rather point you to a local walker than do that part badly.
