Every household with a dog and a holiday card wants the same handful of late November and early December appointments, and salon capacity does not grow to meet them. The result, year after year: once the rush starts around Thanksgiving week, the next opening at a Bay Area salon sits five to six weeks out.
So work backward. Photo on the first weekend of December, minus six weeks of waitlist, means the booking has to happen by mid-October, while the leaves are barely turning and the photo feels comfortably far away. That gap between when it feels urgent and when it actually is urgent is the whole trap.
