Once the holiday rush starts around Thanksgiving week, Bay Area salons book out about six weeks. If the family photo is the first weekend of December, counting back puts your booking deadline in mid-October. Here is the math, and the workaround.
Every household with a dog and a holiday card wants the same handful of late November and early December appointments, and salon capacity does not grow to meet them. The result, year after year: once the rush starts around Thanksgiving week, the next opening at a Bay Area salon sits five to six weeks out.
So work backward. Photo on the first weekend of December, minus six weeks of waitlist, means the booking has to happen by mid-October, while the leaves are barely turning and the photo feels comfortably far away. That gap between when it feels urgent and when it actually is urgent is the whole trap.

This is the deadline the salon waitlist imposes. For a first-weekend-of-December photo, that means booking by roughly mid-October.
Never day-of. A freshly washed coat needs about a day to settle and get its texture back. Day-before is the sweet spot.
A whitening shampoo lifts the yellow and gray tinge that light coats pick up. The difference is obvious on camera.
Wash plus high-velocity dry pulls the loose undercoat so holiday sweaters, laps, and photo blankets stay fur-free.
Why not day-of? A fresh wash leaves the coat flat for about a day. Give it that day and it settles into the coat you actually want in the picture.
The six-week queue is a salon problem. We wash one dog at a time in the van at your driveway, with evening and weekend slots, so a Thursday 7pm wash before a Saturday photo is a normal booking, not a favor. No drop-off, no pickup window, no waitlist between you and the date you need.
The honest catch: mobile capacity is small by design. We take a limited number of washes each day, and November fills first every year. Booking early is not a sales line here, it is how the small calendar works. Prices stay flat either way, $75 to $155 by dog size.
Pick a slot one or two days before the photo. Whitening wash for white coats, deshed for double coats, and the coat has its day to settle.

I run Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash myself β Iβm the one who shows up at your door. Every visit is one dog at a time in the van at your curb: warm water, a full brush-out and a proper dry, with no salon drive and no cage waiting. The van is open to you the whole time β stand at the door and watch every minute if you like. Big dogs, heavy shedders and nervous seniors are the reason this service exists.

Ace was punctual & accommodating. He was friendly & outgoing not only me & my husband but toward the dogs as well, calling them by name on our very first booking. Dogs came home clean & unstressed which is never the case when theyβre washed at the groomerβs shop, around other dogs. Highly recommend.
We booked Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash for our 90-lb German Shepherd, Koda, who hates the groomer. Ace parked the van right in our driveway in Willow Glen, walked her up the ramp himself β no lifting, no cage, no other dogs β and I watched the whole wash from my doorstep. Bay Area Dog Wash being mobile is such a convenience. The fees are flat rate as well which is great because you know exactly what youβre paying prior to the completion of the service. Ace is amazing with dogs. I highly recommend, you wonβt be disappointed!
Ace did a great job with our little old chihuahua mix. Our appointment was for the evening and he came prepared with warm water, and made our sure our dog was comfortable the entire time. Don't let the lack of reviews on yelp scare you away, his prices are good, and he takes time to ensure that good work is done.

He did such an amazing job with my dog! He came out looking so nice, clean, and well-groomed, but what stood out to me most was how happy and comfortable he seemed afterward. Ace came and gave my dog a much needed Pawdicure on my little Yorkie. He used the nail filer/buffer. I was very happy to see there was no clippers used.He was very professional and gentle with my girl. She usually hates her paws touched, but she was very calm with Ace. He has a great set up for his mobile grooming unit and I was able to stand van side and watch without getting in the way. We need to support small businesses and professional business owners. I will definitely recommend and rebook with Ace again!
Overall, we had a very positive experience with our first mobile grooming appointment. Although he arrived a little late due to a minor scheduling miscommunication, Ace was very kind, communicative, and especially patient with our dog, who can be anxious about grooming. He took the time to help him feel comfortable, completed the grooming efficiently, and our dog seemed happy and in great spirits afterward. We really appreciated his gentle approach and care!

Ace showed up on time .was ready to go . my dog was scared but after he got started my dog calmed down and enjoyed her bath. Ace is very polite and respectful . i have a friend who uses Ace to and loves him ! .for the price and the care you canβt beat itβ¦!!! 10/10 no doubt !
Ace was great with my 3 small dogs. They got washed and towel dried, their ears checked, their nails trimmed. One star off because he trimmed one nail too far and it bled for a long time, plus distressed my already anxious dog. Important to know that this service isn't van-based (yet). Ace brings a portable wash station to set up outside. He brings his own water and supplies. He doesn't do any hair cuts, just basic wash and towel dry. I'll call him again in the future!
