The nail trim is the most-listed extra on Bay Area grooming menus. Here is what it actually costs, from 112 published prices, surveyed September 2026.
Short answer: a median of $25, with published prices running from $10 to $60. A salon trim bought on its own runs about $25. Ours costs nothing extra: it comes with every wash.
Nails are rarely the only extra. Ear cleaning is often its own line too, at a median of $15 across 41 published prices. Buy both on top of a bath and the medians alone add $40 before the bath is counted. And 131 of the 309 groomers we checked publish no prices at all, extras included.
Many salons and pet stores will trim nails without a bath, often with no appointment. It is the quickest way to get just the nails done, and it is still a car trip and a waiting room for a dog that may already hate having its paws handled.
Many price lists sell the trim as a line item on top of the bath or groom, which is how it shows up in the survey. Read the bath price and the add-ons together, because the total is what you pay.
Some businesses, us among them, fold the trim into the bath price. It looks like a higher sticker until you add up what the other quote charges for the same visit.
Clipping vs. grinding. A clipper takes the length off in one cut. A grinder files it down in passes and leaves a smoother edge, and it takes longer, which is why some shops charge more for it. Many groomers clip the bulk and then grind the edge. The trade-offs are laid out in clippers vs. grinder.
How overgrown the nails are. The quick grows out along with a long nail, so badly overgrown nails usually come back over several trims rather than one. A dog on a regular schedule is a quick job. See how often nails need trimming: for most dogs, every 3 to 4 weeks.
How the dog takes it. A dog that fights the trim takes longer and sometimes needs two people. Some shops add a handling charge; a dog that cannot be trimmed without sedation belongs with your vet.

We are a wash service, not a nail shop. The trim is part of every wash, along with ear cleaning and a full brush-out, and it does not change the price. The wash itself is $75β155, set by your dog's size alone.
That also means we don't do nail-only visits. If all you need is nails between baths, a walk-in trim or a home trim is honestly cheaper. If your dog is due for a bath anyway, the nails come with it.
A frame from a real visit. More on the nail trim page.
In September 2026 we collected the published price lists of 309 Bay Area grooming businesses. Every menu line that named a nail service counted, so a shop that lists both a clip and a grind counts twice: the 112 is price lines, not businesses. Lines priced like a full service were left out, and so were our own prices. The full survey, with bath and groom prices by size, is in Bay Area dog grooming prices.
$75β155 by size, nail trim and ear cleaning included. Clip or grind, your choice.

I run Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash myself β Iβm the one who shows up at your door. Every visit is one dog at a time in the van at your curb: warm water, a full brush-out and a proper dry, with no salon drive and no cage waiting. Big dogs, heavy shedders and nervous seniors are the reason this service exists.
What our customers say
SUCH a great - and easy! - experience! Asa was immediately responsive (I love when businesses actually answer their phone!), worked Moose in within 24 hours, was communicative throughout, bought unscented products specifically for us, did a great job with my 12 year old doodle β¦ all in all: amazing service!
Ace at Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash was absolutely wonderful with my senior dog. He was so gentle and patient with him, which meant everything to me given his age β I could tell he genuinely cared about his comfort throughout the whole process. Beyond the excellent care, Ace was warm, loving, and clearly an animal lover at heart, while also being completely professional from start to finish. It's rare to find someone who balances that kind of tenderness with real expertise, and my dog came out looking and smelling great without a hint of stress. Highly recommend Ace and Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash.
Ace was great with my 3 small dogs. They got washed and towel dried, their ears checked, their nails trimmed. One star off because he trimmed one nail too far and it bled for a long time, plus distressed my already anxious dog. Important to know that this service isn't van-based (yet). Ace brings a portable wash station to set up outside. He brings his own water and supplies. He doesn't do any hair cuts, just basic wash and towel dry. I'll call him again in the future!
Ace did a great job with our little old chihuahua mix. Our appointment was for the evening and he came prepared with warm water, and made our sure our dog was comfortable the entire time. Don't let the lack of reviews on yelp scare you away, his prices are good, and he takes time to ensure that good work is done.
He did such an amazing job with my dog! He came out looking so nice, clean, and well-groomed, but what stood out to me most was how happy and comfortable he seemed afterward. You can really tell he was treated with care throughout the entire process. I'm extremely pleased with how everything turned out and would definitely recommend him!

Ace showed up on time .was ready to go . my dog was scared but after he got started my dog calmed down and enjoyed her bath. Ace is very polite and respectful . i have a friend who uses Ace to and loves him ! .for the price and the care you canβt beat itβ¦!!! 10/10 no doubt !
We booked Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash for our 90-lb German Shepherd, Koda, who hates the groomer. Ace parked the van right in our driveway in Willow Glen, walked her up the ramp himself β no lifting, no cage, no other dogs β and I watched the whole wash from my doorstep. Bath, nails, ears, and she came back inside dry and calm. Flat $95 exactly as the website said, no surprise charges. We've already booked next month. πβ€οΈ
