Every 4 to 6 weeks, and closer to every 3 to 4 in allergy season. The coat is the easy part. Pitbull bathing is really about skin, and the difference between a bath that calms itchy skin and one that makes it worse comes down to shampoo choice, dilution, and the rinse.
No undercoat, so no deshed drama. The coat is the easiest part of this dog. The skin underneath is the whole story.
Short stiff hairs that weave into fabric. A weekly once-over with a rubber curry mitt keeps most of it off the couch.
Regular baths rinse pollen and dust off the skin before it triggers a flare. In a bad spring, every 3 to 4 weeks helps.
Most pits land in our medium tier at $95. Big blocky boys over 60 lbs are $115. Flat by size, no surprises.
Pits and pit mixes are famously easy-care on the outside and famously reactive underneath. The breed runs to environmental allergies, dry flaky patches, and hot spots, and the short single coat offers the skin almost no buffer: whatever lands on a pitbull, pollen, dust, grass seed, shampoo residue, sits directly against skin. That is why the same dog that never needs a brush can spend half the year scratching. In the Bay Area the problem runs long, because our grass and tree pollen season starts in late winter and dry-season dust carries it into fall.
The bath routine that helps has three rules. First, a gentle hypoallergenic or oatmeal shampoo, diluted the way the label says, never poured on straight. Second, a complete rinse-out, longer than feels necessary, until the water runs clean, because leftover residue is the single most common itch trigger owners never suspect. Third, slightly more frequent baths during allergy season, every 3 to 4 weeks instead of 4 to 6, because each bath physically rinses the allergens off the skin before they can keep a flare going. Done this way, more bathing calms an allergic pit. Done with a harsh shampoo and a quick rinse, the same frequency wrecks the skin.
Know when it is past bathing. A hot spot that is raw or weeping, hair loss in patches, or a dog chewing its paws bloody has moved past what any shampoo can do. That is a vet visit. Good bathing prevents and calms irritated skin. It does not treat an infection that has already started.
A gentle hypoallergenic or oatmeal shampoo, properly diluted, with a long thorough rinse. The rinse is the step that decides whether the skin stays calm.
More frequent baths physically remove pollen and dust from the skin. With a mild shampoo this frequency does not dry a pit out.
Five minutes with a curry mitt lifts loose hair and spreads skin oil. It also gives you a weekly hands-on check for new bumps or hot spots.
A plain water rinse of the belly, legs, and paws washes allergens off the thin-skinned areas that flare first.
If your vet has prescribed a medicated bathing plan for allergies or skin issues, that plan wins over this one.
If your pit has healthy skin and tolerates the hose, honestly, no. A short-coated dog with no undercoat is one of the easiest home baths there is, and we would rather tell you that than pretend otherwise. Mild shampoo, lukewarm water, long rinse, towel dry, done.
Where we earn the $95 to $115 is the itchy ones. Getting dilution right, keeping a medicated shampoo on the skin for its full contact time while a strong dog wants out of the tub, and then rinsing every trace back out takes time and a wash bay built for it. We use your vet's product if there is one, or a gentle hypoallergenic line if there is not, and the whole thing happens in the van at your driveway in about an hour. For an allergic pit on an every 3 to 4 week cycle, handing that chore off is what keeps the schedule from slipping.

Every visit is one dog at a time in the van at your curb: warm water, a full brush-out and a proper dry, with no salon drive and no cage waiting. The van is open to you the whole time β stand at the door and watch every minute if you like. Big dogs, heavy shedders and nervous seniors are the reason this service exists.

We booked Bay Area Mobile Dog Wash for our 90-lb German Shepherd, Koda, who hates the groomer. Ace came and gave my dog a much needed Pawdicure on my little Yorkie. He used the nail filer/buffer. I was very happy to see there was no clippers used.He was very professional and gentle with my girl. She usually hates her paws touched, but she was very calm with Ace. He has a great set up for his mobile grooming unit and I was able to stand van side and watch without getting in the way. We need to support small businesses and professional business owners. Although he arrived a little late due to a minor scheduling miscommunication, Ace was very kind, communicative, and especially patient with our dog, who can be anxious about grooming. Ace showed up on time .was ready to go . my dog was scared but after he got started my dog calmed down and enjoyed her bath. Ace is very polite and respectful . i have a friend who uses Ace to and loves him ! .for the price and the care you canβt beat itβ¦!!! 10/10 no doubt !
Ace was great with my 3 small dogs. They got washed and towel dried, their ears checked, their nails trimmed. One star off because he trimmed one nail too far and it bled for a long time, plus distressed my already anxious dog. Important to know that this service isn't van-based (yet). Ace brings a portable wash station to set up outside. He brings his own water and supplies. He doesn't do any hair cuts, just basic wash and towel dry. I'll call him again in the future!
