How often should you bathe a great pyrenees?
Every 3 to 4 months. The coat is close to self-cleaning; the actual job is fully drying a hundred-plus pounds of dense white double coat, which is where a home bath usually falls short.

The real problem
A self-cleaning giant, until it's time to dry a hundred pounds of coat.
Great pyrenees were bred to guard livestock outdoors in every season, and the coat evolved to handle that job without much help. Dirt tends to dry and brush out rather than needing a wash, which is unusual among common breeds and why the baseline schedule is only every 3 to 4 months. Bathing much more often than that actually works against the dog, stripping the natural oils that make the coat weather-resistant in the first place.
When a bath is genuinely needed, size becomes the real challenge. A great pyrenees running 85 to 115+ lbs carries a dense double coat that holds an enormous amount of water, and a towel or home hair dryer rarely reaches all the way to the skin. Left to air-dry, that much wet undercoat can take most of a day, which risks skin issues and leaves the dog uncomfortable in the meantime. A real forced-air dryer is what actually finishes the job.
Never shave a great pyrenees. The double coat regulates temperature in both directions and provides real sun protection. Shaving risks permanent coat damage and doesn't reliably reduce shedding once it grows back.

If your vet has prescribed a medicated bathing plan for skin issues, that plan wins over this one.
The honest answer
Does a great pyrenees need professional bathing?
Rarely, and that's genuinely good news for this breed. Most of the year the coat takes care of itself, and even the off-season bath is manageable at home if you have the time and equipment to actually dry a hundred-plus pounds of coat.

Yes, and it's one of the more extreme examples of this on our list. The breed was developed to guard livestock outdoors year round, and the coat evolved to resist dirt and weather on its own. Every 3-4 months is genuinely enough for most great pyrenees that aren't dealing with a specific mess.
With a real forced-air dryer, not a towel or a home hair dryer. A coat this dense holds a lot of water, and a damp undercoat left to air-dry can take most of a day and risks skin issues in the meantime. Our van dryer gets a great pyrenees fully dry down to the skin in one visit.
Shedding and bathing frequency aren't the same thing for this breed. The coat is designed to stay relatively clean without frequent washing, but it still sheds heavily, especially during seasonal blowouts, which is a brushing job more than a bathing one.
We don't recommend it. The double coat actually helps regulate temperature in both directions and provides sun protection; shaving risks permanent coat damage and doesn't reliably reduce shedding once it grows back. Frequent brushing and staying ahead of blowouts is the safer approach.

Ace was great with my 3 small dogs. They got washed and towel dried, their ears checked, their nails trimmed. One star off because he trimmed one nail too far and it bled for a long time, plus distressed my already anxious dog. Important to know that this service isn't van-based (yet). Ace brings a portable wash station to set up outside. He brings his own water and supplies. He doesn't do any hair cuts, just basic wash and towel dry. I'll call him again in the future!
